TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT

On April 24, 2019, the Alamogordo Public Schools (APS) Board of Education voted to approve moving Transportation Services in-house. Moving Transportation Services under APS allowed the District to ensure compliance with NM PED regulations and Special Education statutes while providing better oversight of transportation funding and expenditures.

The APS Coordinator of Transportation oversees all aspects of District transportation and is responsible for accurate reporting, determining efficient bus routes, and responding to stakeholder concerns. Additionally, all bus drivers are now District employees.

Alongside the daily bus routes, transportation participates in yearly field trips, sports activities, and community projects.

Transportation has an in-house program to train and certify new CDL drivers.

Can my student ride the bus?

NMPED distance requirements for bus riders:

  • Elementary students can ride the bus if they live 1 mile or more from their school.

  • Middle school students can ride the bus if they live 1.5 miles or more from their school.

  • High school students can ride the bus if they live 2 or more from school.

  • Buses are not available for Holloman Schools.

Download today and experience hassle-free school transportation.

The My Ride K-12 app is available for iPhone and other iOS-based devices, as well as the Google Play Store for all Android-based devices.

Students are required to use their student ID badges to ride the bus.

Posted bus routes and pick-up and drop-off times are approximate. Please remember that traffic, weather, and other unforeseen circumstances may cause some routes to be early or delayed. Also, as students choose not to ride or to ride the bus during the school year, pick-up and drop-off times are adjusted. For example, the elimination of just one bus stop (because students no longer ride or are absent from a stop on a particular day) can affect a route by 2-3 minutes. It is recommended that parents and students arrive at their bus stops at least five (5) minutes before the published times.

If you see an issue with your child’s transportation information, parent transportation assistance is currently available Monday through Friday from 7 am to 4 pm.
